Janice Kerbel, Hilary Lloyd, Silke Otto-Knapp

20.10.-16.12.2012

Opening Fri 19th October 2012, 7 pm

Hilary Lloyd, Pavement (Detail)

Janice Kerbel, Hilary Lloyd and Silke Otto-Knapp are three outstanding solo artists whose work has increasingly attracted widespread international attention during the past few years. The exhibition at Kölnischer Kunstverein brings them together for the first time in Germany. In direct cooperation they will produce a coherent exhibition tableau. The aim is to produce an interaction of their respective artistic strategies including painting (Otto-Knapp), video installations and slide shows (Lloyd) and audio drama, prints, publications and light installations (Kerbel) so that a joint choreography of space might emerge.

This unique joint production is rendered possible by the special relationship the artists share. This relationship is based on a common ongoing dialogue on artistic and personal questions during the past 15 years. The project at Kölnischer Kunstverein also seeks to highlight the importance of exhibitions and cooperations that have not – as is a common standard with group shows – been constructed by a curator and the chosen topic, but instead concentrate on the complexity and the importance of already existing work and life relations including their many desires, questions and quests.
